10 ways to keep the kidneys well

The human body has two kidneys that maintain the body's water balance and filter out various contaminants. Kidney disease is a silent killer.
The number of patients suffering from kidney disease is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. Many people die of this disease every year. Treatment of such diseases is also quite expensive. So the kidneys should be taken care of in advance. Here are 10 ways to keep your kidneys healthy.

  1. Drink enough water:
Drink at least 8 glasses of water or liquid food every day. However, if you sweat excessively, you need to increase the amount of water you drink. Drinking enough water does not cause kidney stones and its normal functioning is normal.
  2. Eat less salt:
Eating too much salt in the diet is harmful to kidney health. The human body needs only 1 teaspoon of salt per day. So make it a habit to avoid eating too much salt to keep your kidneys healthy.
  3. Avoid eating extra animal protein:
Eating beef, pork, etc. puts extra pressure on the kidneys. Even chips, fast food, processed foods, instant noodles and fried nuts with salt are extremely harmful to the kidneys. Excess protein in the diet puts pressure on the kidneys and can damage the weakened cells of the kidneys. So avoid animal protein and keep fish or pulses.
  4. Keep blood pressure normal
If the blood pressure is above 140/90, the risk of kidney problems increases. So always try to keep the blood pressure 130/60 or less to keep the kidneys good. It is important to exercise regularly and eat less salt to lower blood pressure.
  5. Control diabetes:
If diabetes is not controlled, the risk of kidney disease increases. Get your blood sugar checked regularly. Avoid sugary foods if you have high sugar.
  6. Caution in taking medicine:
More or less all drugs are harmful to the kidneys. Painkillers in particular are not good for the kidneys. If you buy the medicine yourself without knowing the rules, you will inadvertently cause any major damage to the kidneys. So take the advice of a doctor before taking any medicine.
  7. Do not take too much vitamin C:
The human body does not need more than 500 mg of vitamin C per day. Eating more vitamin C-rich foods than you need regularly can lead to kidney stones. So take 500 mg or less of vitamin C daily.
  8. Avoid soft drinks:
Many people drink soft drinks or a variety of energy drinks instead of water. Such drinks are extremely harmful to the kidneys. So avoid soft drinks and drink water whenever you are thirsty.
  9. Quit smoking and drinking:
Due to smoking and alcohol, the blood flow to the kidneys gradually decreases and as a result the performance of the kidneys also decreases. As a result, smokers and alcoholics get kidney disease at one stage.
  10. Get a kidney test:
If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, being overweight or have a family problem with kidney problems, you have a higher risk of developing kidney disease. People who are at risk of kidney disease should have regular kidney tests.
